July Water Wednesday Finale! (photos)
The St. Louis River Alliance National Water Trail Staff hosted their fifth and final Water Wednesday event on July 9th, at Harrison Community Center (3002 W 3rd St). Tommy from Minnesota Sea Grant joined us, and brought a St. Louis River Exploration puzzle map, where you can learn about the history, and facts along the St. Louis River Estuary. It was a really interactive way to engage with everyone, and learn about the river piece by piece.. Did you know that a female sturgeon can live up to ~150 years old?
This event was well attended with a total of 28 guests who brought a smile, enjoyed crafts, and held meaningful conversations. Families stopped in who were enjoying the playground, and our sign was seen from the bus stop, which helped spread the word. Kids also really enjoyed coloring the National Water Trail logo, donuts, and took extra coloring sheets home for later!
Conversations included: Morgan Park for local birding and walking trails, Dwight’s Point Primitive Camping, upcoming SLRA events and pricing (reminder all of our events are FREE), remediation processes for Area of Concern work, and a lot of questions about where to boat, where to rent, and what wildlife you will see on the river.
Guests were also invited to share an anonymous river story to receive a $20 Super One Foods gift card, in partner with the Lake Superior Headwaters Sustainability Partnership.
This event series coming to an end has us feeling quite sad, but also very hopeful and proud at the same time for all who showed up to learn more about the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. During these Water Wednesday events, building connections with one another felt very natural, and we hope everyone who joined us felt the same. We hope to see all of you in the future!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
