Community Paddle (photos)

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Community Paddle on July 24 at Chambers Grove. With all of the recent rain, the river was flowing! Attendees learned the important lessons of staying flexible and respecting the river’s power.

We explored a small sliver of the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail while learning about the Area of Concern (AOC) cleanup efforts that have made the river a cleaner/safer place to recreate. We talked about the manoomin restoration and sturgeon recovery near Chambers Grove, in addition to the historic uses of Chambers Grove.

A special thank you to our partners at UMD’s Recreational Sports Outdoor Program for providing gear and instruction, and to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for providing information on the AOC efforts. This event was possible due to generous funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative in an effort to reconnect adjacent river neighborhoods back to the St. Louis River.

Interested in planning a new adventure on the St. Louis River? Come to our River Orientation & Trip Planning event on August 21 to learn where to go, what gear is recommended, and important water safety. To register go to http://tinyurl.com/slre-nwt-trip-planning
