Ice Safety: River Connection Event

  • Munger Landing Clyde Avenue Duluth, MN, 55808 United States (map)

Join the St. Louis River Alliance on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Munger Landing (Clyde Ave, Duluth) for a fun, hands-on winter event all about staying safe on the St. Louis River.

Winter on the river is beautiful, but it also comes with risks. Whether you fish, walk, skate, explore, or simply enjoy being near the ice, this event offers a friendly, approachable way to learn how to stay safe while still making the most of the season.

Experts from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will lead easy, practical lessons on checking ice thickness, recognizing safe (and unsafe) ice conditions, and using essential ice safety gear. You’ll also learn simple self-rescue techniques—skills that can make a real difference for you or someone you care about.

We’ll have snowshoe demos (weather permitting), a cozy bonfire, and warm hot chocolate and marshmallows. Participants can take home fun and useful giveaways, including emergency whistles, wallet-size ice thickness cards, and keychain tape measures.

This event is part of our River Connection Event Series and is supported by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency with funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. A St. Louis River Area of Concern (AOC) Coordinator will also be on-site to share updates on completed restoration projects that have helped clean up and restore this section of the river.

Come learn, explore, and enjoy the river with us!
