Celebrating Earth Week: Woodstock Bay Landing Community Cleanup
The spirit of Earth Week was alive and well in Superior, Wisconsin, as St. Louis River Alliance volunteers gathered at Woodstock Bay Landing for a successful cleanup event. Thank you to Jodi and the City of Superior for making these events so easy to host by providing grabbers, buckets, gloves, and disposal of the garbage. And a special thank you to our St. Louis River Alliance volunteers and staff who came to enjoy the beautiful views of Woodstock Bay Public Landing while helping enhance this incredible St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail access point.
Thankfully the community loves this landing and there was minimal garbage, but we did find dozens of cigarette butts, a tire, and some scrap metal and misc. debris! Please remember that cigarette litter can leach harmful chemicals like nicotine, arsenic, lead, and heavy metals into our waterways and soil. These toxins can poison fish, wildlife, and are quite unsightly. PLEASE pack out what you bring in.
The St. Louis River Alliance adopted Woodstock Bay Landing in 2022 and since have hosted 2-3 cleanups annually. This public access landing is on 28th Street along the edge of the Superior Municipal Forest, which contains more than 22 miles of shoreline along the St Louis River. In 2024, the site underwent a transformation including an improved paddle launch, overlooks, pavilion, vault restroom, enhanced ice fishing access, shoreline stabilization, parking lot improvements and many plantings.
