Piping Plover Habitat Improvements on Wisconsin Point Bird Sanctuary

August was full of Piping Plover habitat site improvements at the Wisconsin Point Bird Sanctuary made possible by dedicated volunteers. Mikayla Erickson welcomed over 15 volunteers on 3 seperate occasions to help remove and bag invasive plant materials, helping reduce the seed bank for next year’s shorebird season. We bagged up six 20 gallon bags of spotted knapweed, and other unwanted species within the nesting area. Mikayla also opened the site on August 10th where volunteers cleared the shoreline from woody debris, and were able to burn debris clearing the shoreline for foraging shorebirds.
