Join the St. Louis River Alliance: Membership Drive (Oct. 19-Dec. 10, 2026)

The St. Louis River is more than just a river — it’s the heartbeat of our community, a safe haven for wildlife, and a place where we come together to connect and explore. During our 2026 Fall Membership Drive, running October 19 to December 10, 2026, we invite you to support the work of the St. Louis River Alliance and our mission to protect, restore, and connect our community to this vital water source.

From now until December 10, 2026, you can make a difference by:

All qualifying memberships, donations, and successful referrals between Oct. 19 and Dec. 10, 2026 will be entered into a drawing for a kayak trip with the St. Louis River Alliance for up to six people. Multiple entries are allowed for additional donations or referrals, making your support go even further.

2026 Highlights & Accomplishments

Below are a few of our 2026 highlights and accomplishments, and some great reasons to support our work. Check out our full highlight list with pictures here.

  • Manoomin (Wild Rice) Restoration: Planting Manoomin (wild rice) this fall with the help of 22 volunteers reminds us that continued community stewardship makes a difference. As we approached the dense rice beds via canoes, once absent due to pollution, we found the growing plants teeming with life, such as fish and red-winged blackbirds.

  • Piping Plover Monitoring: After 14 years of managing the endangered Piping Plover habitat and monitoring, a pair of nesting Piping Plovers were observed this spring on Wisconsin Point. This sparks a renewed sense of hope after a 49 year absence of nesting pairs in the Twin Ports.

  • Pollution Cleanup: This summer marked the completion of the Thomson Reservoir remediation, the last contaminated sediment site in the estuary on the Minnesota side. This project was made possible through agency collaboration and advocacy for funding from SLRA.

  • Community Engagement: We engaged with over 2,000 community members at over 20 events in 2026, who share their stories with us and agency partners. This reminds us of why we do this work, and we find a deeper connection in all we do because of these shared experiences.
