Reconnecting to the St. Louis River
Since the Alliance's very beginning, we have worked hand-in-hand with agencies and tribal partners to create the system and plan for delisting the St. Louis River as an Area of Concern. As time has gone on, we've been able to focus our efforts on reconnecting the community to these newly restored areas.
In 2022, we set out to gain community input on what activities people were interested in experiencing on the river and any barriers that prevented them from those experiences... to help reconnect those who have been historically cut off due to industrialization, pollution, and privatization of land.
What has come from those conversations are over a dozen curated events, as determined by YOU, the community. As the health of the river improves, so does the neighborhoods around it. It has been an absolute joy to be a part of this change and to meet, learn from, and share with so many who care about this water.
The photo attached is a collage of images captured at some of the engagement events we have hosted; plant walks, birding, biking along the river, ice safety, fishing, paddling, foraging.. You're invited to join us as we make new memories along the river. Join us at a future event: stlouisriver.org/events
These events have been made possible with generous funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Thank you Barb at Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for creating this collage and for helping create the vision for these events!
