New Water Trail Resources Now Available!

The St. Louis River Alliance is excited to share a new set of tools to help visitors and community members safely explore and connect with the St. Louis River and its National Water Trail. As part of our ongoing work to improve access, education, and responsible recreation, SLRA has launched upgraded Water Trail content on our website—along with a newly designed brochure now available in print and as a downloadable PDF.

These updates were developed as part of the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail, a nationally designated trail managed by SLRA since 2017 in partnership with more than 50 organizations. Guided by the National Water Trail Master Plan and 5-Year Action Plan, the project responds to a clear need for accessible, engaging, and easy-to-find information for paddlers, families, educators, and visitors of all experience levels.

What’s New

  • Two new website landing pages

    • About the River: explores the ecology, history, and cultural significance of the St. Louis River

    • River Resources: a centralized hub highlighting camping, gear, and trips available for getting out on the NWT

  • Five new Water Trail itinerary blog posts featuring half-day, full-day, and weekend trip ideas, now housed on a new Itineraries and Tips page.

  • A new Water Trail brochure highlighting key access points, recreation opportunities, and safety resources—available as a printable PDF and distributed at SLRA events.

These resources are already helping increase awareness of the Water Trail, strengthening partner collaboration, and making it easier for people to plan safe, meaningful experiences on the river. Together, these tools support outdoor recreation and tourism while fostering stewardship and long-term protection of the St. Louis River Estuary.

Download the Water Trail brochure PDF and explore the new resources on our website to start planning your next river adventure.
