Celebrating a Cleaner, Healthier St. Louis River at Munger Landing

On Wednesday, August 5, the St. Louis River Alliance and many dedicated partners gathered at Munger Landing to celebrate a major milestone in the river’s restoration journey. Once one of the most polluted stretches of the river, this area now stands as a testament to years of hard work, collaboration, and environmental stewardship.

More than 100,000 cubic yards of polluted sediment have been removed from this site, transforming it into a revitalized, welcoming space for the public. With the addition of a new boat launch, paddle access, and a fishing dock, Munger Landing is now more accessible and enjoyable than ever before.

Kris Eilers, Executive Director of the St. Louis River Alliance, reflected on the achievement:
“We see the health of the river improving, and we’re also able to see that the community’s health will improve as well—there’s a direct correlation.”

The St. Louis River is not only cleaner—it’s becoming a vibrant community asset and a key destination along the St. Louis River National Water Trail. The Alliance is proud to continue its work helping people connect with this beautiful and resilient waterway.
