Dwight’s Point Sea Kayak Paddle + Lunch

Join the St. Louis River Alliance and UMD Recreation Sports Outdoor Program (RSOP) for an afternoon of exploring the newly designated St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail! On Sunday, August 4th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. we will paddle along towering white pines on steep clay embankments, passing lily pads in bloom and birds basking in their summer quarters. Come see, smell, and hear the flora and fauna who call the estuary home.

We will meet at the UMD Boat Shed on Park Point, 1421 St. Louis Avenue, Duluth, MN 55802. After packing up our gear, we will caravan to Woodstock Bay Landing, and then paddle to Dwight’s Point for lunch. Bring your own bottled water and bagged lunch.

No experience in kayaks is necessary! All sea kayaking and safety equipment, cold water immersion wear (as needed), and instruction are included. RSOP will provide instruction on how to fit a kayak, sweep stroke, forward and reverse strokes, and how to safely enter and exit the kayak.

Space is limited and registration is necessary. This event is $75 for SLRA Members and $100 for non-members (which will include an SLRA membership). Please register online at: https://tinyurl.com/Dwights-point-paddle

Please dress and prepare for the weather! What to bring: bag lunch and snacks, a swimsuit and paddling clothes, towel, full water bottle(s), close-toed shoes or neoprene booties that will get wet, sunglasses with strap, optional sun hat and sunscreen, change of dry clothes for after the course.
