and the Organization:
An Outcome of the CAC Planning Retreat held April, 1999
Top CAC RIVER Goals (voted most important among existing RAP river goals through a pre-retreat survey)
* Protect and restore fish and wildlife habitat, including fish spawning and nursery areas, wetlands, and aquatic and upland breeding, nesting, and migration habitats.
* Achieve and maintain water quality that protects ecological integrity and permits safe recreation, including swimming, fishing and boating.
* Encourage the implementation of a staged river cleanup to remediate existing polluted sites and prevent further degradation.
* Reduce pollutant loading to the river, including nutrients, sediment, and toxins.
* Establish and maintain a coordinated monitoring network and information management system for the AOC.
Top CAC PROGRAM Goals (as identified at the CAC Planning Retreat held April, 1999)
* Increase public environmental awareness of RAP activities and goals (visibility, recognition). Maintain and promote education and outreach programs (e.g. River Watch Program, Bio-sentinel Program, Stewardship Awards, etc.).
* Conduct education and outreach - awareness, individual responsibility, wider media approach, show examples in community.
* Establish a coastal wetlands site restoration with a comprehensive program (education, signage, etc.).
* Complete the habitat plan, including a list of grant/funding opportunities.
* Interpret industrial, human and natural history in through signage, displays, etc.
* Develop and maintain a bank of potential projects driven by RAP recommendations.
Top CAC ORGANIZATIONAL Goals (as identified at the CAC Planning Retreat held April, 1999)
* Hire assistant.
* Increase visibility.
* Continue seeking private, federal, state funds to support program goals.
* Maintain and increase diversity of membership.
* Secure stable, long-term organizational funding.
