1999 Riverside Cleanup
In May 1999, the CAC's Environmental Stewardship Committee held a cleanup along the St. Louis River in Duluth's Riverside neighborhood. We worked along the old U.S. Steel site, where the only access was by boat or by foot. We removed old tires, a lot of heavy steel banding and other miscellaneous items.
We enjoyed gorgeous weather and good company, and the support of community helpers. Volunteers from the historic Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad came with a train to carry the junk back to our staging area on flatbed railroad cars. Howard Waste Paper provided a dumpster and disposed of the trash for us.
