2001 Canoe Trip on the Historic St. Louis River & Willard Munger Memorial Picnic

This year's canoe trip took place Saturday, August 4, 2001 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Over 80 canoes and kayaks put in at Boy Scout Landing and took out at Indian Point. Jerome Blasevik gave safety instructions and a short talk about the history of the area at Boy Scout Landing. The group stopped at the Oliver Bridge to view the construction underway. Frank Koshere, WI DNR biologist, gave a presentation at Clough Island about the plant and animal life found on the river. The Willard Munger Memorial Picnic took place at 4:00 PM on Indian Point at the Munger home.

Canoeists were greeted by: (left to right) Brook Emerson, Kathryn Fuller, Barb Peichel, and Cindy Emerson. John Helland checks in on the far right.

The group listens to Jerome Blazevic giving safety instructions and a history talk at the put in.

Beautiful weather prevailed the whole day.

Paddlers listen intently to Frank Koshere as he explains the flora and fauna found along the river.

Two Voyageur canoes, loaned by the WI DNR, carried adventurous souls down the St. Louis River. Dressed as voyageurs are Grant Anderson (bow) and Kyle Campbell (stern).
