Meeting was called to order by Minnesota Co-Chair Phil Monson in the Minnesota
Pollution Control Agency conference room. Members present introduced themselves.
Presentation:
Doug Jensen, Minnesota Sea Grant, began his presentation on exotic species
with a showing of the video "Stop Exotics; Clean Your Boat" featuring
John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin from the TV show "Cheers"). This video
was made especially for boaters and anglers to teach how to prevent the
spread of exotics. There are 52 non-native species in Lake Superior at
this time and the St. Louis River has also been impacted. There has been
a loss of habitat for native species, and the CAC can work with Sea Grant
to address exotic species issues, e.g. purple loosestrife. Doug also presented
a slide show about other exotics and the threat to native species.
Business
Meeting:
Steve Hopkins, EPA Region V, presented a certificate of appreciation
to Alden Lind, signed by David Ulrich, Administrator of Region V. Alden
had a vision for Lake Superior 30 years and ago and it is because of his
vision that Lake Superior is cleaner than the other Great Lakes. Alden
Lind's efforts all these years are appreciated by the CAC and all its
members.
Members present were asked to identify points on a map of the St. Louis
River -- a "Rap-Up".
Minutes from the January and March quarterly meetings were approved.
