1996 Awards (Presented in May 1996) St. Louis River Quest, organized by 40 local public agencies, school districts, political subdivisions and industries, for taking more than 600 sixth graders annually on educational cruises where they learn about the St. Louis River Estuary. (Randy Marshall Award). Tim Reese, Americorps Volunteer for the Carlton Co. Soil and Water Conservation District, for outreach activities related to the Green Thumb Project and the Nemadji River Basin Project. (Milton E. Pelletier Award). Tony Kroska, Americorps Volunteer for the Carlton Co. Soil and Water Conservation District, for mapping and outreach activities conducted in support of the Nemadji River Basin Project. (Individual category). T.R.O.U.T. (Together Reach Out to Upgrade Trout), for its efforts to improve trout streams in the St. Louis River watershed, including habitat improvement, tree planting, clean ups and school involvement. (Organization category). Northern Collision Business Association, and Joe Ogston, for organizing a partnership to inform auto body businesses about ways to properly and economically manage their wastes. With MPCA, they organized a hazardous waste collection that brought for proper disposal in nearly 6,000 gallons of waste paints and solvents from 98 individuals and shops involved in the autobody industry.
