2008 Environmental Stewardship Awards
2008 Awards (presented January 2009) The 14th Annual Environmental Stewardship Awards were presented at annual membership meeting of the St. Louis River Alliance held January 21, 2009.
Len Anderson Environmental Stewardship Award (School/Institute) First time given as a named award Marshall School was presented with the first in recognition of its efforts to reduce surface runoff impacts to Brewery Creek while involving the students who will carry these valuable lessons into their adult lives.
Sally Gibson Environmental Stewardship Award (Individual) Brad Moore, former MPCA commissioner, in recognition of his strong leadership and advocacy in the success of developing a state disposal system permit regulating ballast water discharges in Minnesota waters.
Milton Pelletier Environmental Stewardship Award ( Organization) The Weber Stream Restoration Initiative in recognition of the collaborative efforts to enhance habitats and biodiversity in Lake Superior tributary streams by protecting and restoring watersheds along Minnesota’s North Shore.
The Willard Munger, Sr. Environmental Stewardship Award ( Government) Members of the Wisconsin Freshwater Estuary Initiative Coordination Team in recognition of exemplarily leadership in organizing and coordinating the Lake Superior Freshwater Estuary site selection process. The four recipients were: Becky Sapper, Cathy Techtman, Patrick Robinson, Travis Olson
Special Recognition Environmental Stewardship Award Mike Koutnik in appreciation of tremendous contribution of volunteer time and talents in developing maps and GIS analyses for the Lake Superior Freshwater Estuary site selection process.
Randy Marshall Environmental Stewardship Award (Business) Superior Whitewater Rafting in recognition of the efforts to promote and protect the St. Louis River through conscientious environmental business practices as well as helping to maintain the wilderness character of the river.
Special Recognition Environmental Stewardship Award Mark Nelson, posthumously, for a lifetime of giving his time and talents to the protection of the St. Louis River watershed. Mark passed away last summer. His widow, Karyn MacLean accepted the plaque.
